April 2026 kicks off with a big: yes, I do. Opening the month’s releases is The Drama by Kristoffer Borgli starring Zendaya and Robert Pattinson, who will welcome audiences to theaters with plenty of choices. From the galactic adventure of the animated sequel Super Mario to music and timeless hits in the musical biopic Michael, all the way to one of the most anticipated returns of the season, The Devil Wears Prada 2. Television also brings back many familiar titles, such as the revival of the sitcom Malcolm and the final season of The Boys.

The Drama – in theaters from April 1
It has been called the wedding of the year. The Drama is the film starring Zendaya and Robert Pattinson, leading the new big-screen project by Norwegian director Kristoffer Borgli, one of the most original voices in contemporary cinema. In the week leading up to their wedding, Charlie and Emma decide to confess the worst thing they have ever done. But would you keep loving the person next to you after truly knowing them?
Super Mario Galaxy: The Movie – in theaters from April 1
In 2023, the Super Mario film, based on the video game of the same name, conquered the global box office. In 2026, the sequel Super Mario Galaxy – The Movie arrives in theaters, with the protagonists ready to face a new adventure. Together with his team made up of Luigi, Princess Beach, and Toad, Mario must reach the edges of the universe to fight Bowser Jr., the son of the villain Bowser. Joining them is also Yoshi, voiced by Danny Glover.
Is That the Last Joke? – in theaters from April 2
Inspired by a true story, Is That the Last Joke? is the third film directed by Bradley Cooper, based on an encounter between Will Arnett – who becomes the protagonist of the story – and comedian John Bishop. The story follows the man’s life after separating from his wife and his approach to stand-up comedy, which acts as a therapeutic force.
The Boys 5 – on Prime Video from April 8
The Boys has also reached its final chapter. From April 8, it will be time to say goodbye to characters like Billy Butcher, Homelander, and Hughie Campbell, in one of Prime Video’s flagship series since its debut in 2019, now facing the madness of a tyrant who has bent the world to his will and whom the characters must confront.
The Testaments – on Disney+ from April 8
The world of Margaret Atwood continues to expand on the small screen. It’s time for The Testaments, a coming-of-age story set in Gilead that follows the lives of two teenage girls: the devout and obedient widow Agnes and the newly converted Daisy. The two form a bond strong enough to question the strict rules of the preparatory school for future wives.
A Year of School – in theaters from April 9
After the magical realism of Small Body, Laura Samani returns to cinemas with her second film A Year of School, a loosely inspired adaptation of the 1929 book by Giani Stuparich. The story follows Swedish girl Fredrika (Stella Wendick) as she arrives in Italy and begins to integrate into her new class. Between school desks, nights out, and the turmoil of adolescence, A Year of School is an emotional and uplifting portrait of the most confusing and electrifying years of life.
Till Death Do Us Part 2 – in theaters from April 9
Samara Weaving once again wears Grace Le Domas’ wedding dress and is joined in her hellish marriage by her sister Faith, played by Kathryn Newton, in the sequel Till Death Do Us Part 2. After escaping her first wedding night, during which she had to take part in a deadly game of hide-and-seek, the protagonist will have to repeat the experience – this time chased by a group of Satanist billionaires who seek to capture her in order to become rulers of the world.
Outcome – Hollywood Never Forgets – on AppleTV+ from April 10
Keanu Reeves, Cameron Diaz, Jonah Hill and Matt Bomer star in Outcome – Hollywood Never Forgets, an AppleTV+ original film in which a beloved actor must confront his inner demons after being threatened with a video that could ruin his career.
Malcolm: What a Life! – on Disney+ from April 10
2026 is the year of comebacks. Among them, one of the most anticipated is the revival of Malcolm, the famous sitcom that aired from 2000 to 2006 and featured, among others, a star like Bryan Cranston in its cast. For its return, four episodes are planned to be released all at once on Disney+, with Malcolm helping his parents organize their fortieth anniversary celebration.
Euphoria 3 – on HBO Max from April 13
Seven years have passed since the first season’s release and four since the second. The feeling, however, is that Euphoria 3 will be something strange and different from what we have known so far in the series. Perhaps because most of its protagonists have now become stars. To find out what awaits them (and us), we’ll have to wait until April 13.
Margo Has Money Troubles – on AppleTV+ from April 15
Margo Has Money Troubles is the new AppleTV+ series based on the novel by Rufi Thorpe published in 2024. The show, a family comedy-drama, stars Elle Fanning, Michelle Pfeiffer and Nick Offerman and tells the story of a young woman forced to take care of her newborn child by any means necessary.
Beef: The Clash 2 – on Netflix from April 16
After the success of the first season released on Netflix in 2023, Beef – The Clash returns with a story starring Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, Charles Melton, and Cailee Spaeny. This time, the anthology series focuses on a couple who witness a fight between husband and wife – an event that triggers a chain of consequences affecting the characters’ lives.
Urchin – in theaters from April 16
Among the most intense and original debuts of 2025 is undoubtedly Urchin, the first feature film by actor Harris Dickinson, who moves from a series of short films to directing his debut feature. The film follows Mike, played by Frank Dillane, a homeless young man trying to get his life back on track after a life of addiction.
Michael – in theaters from April 23
There is certainly a lot of buzz surrounding the upcoming musical biopic, Michael. But as great as the anticipation is, so are the questions surrounding this portrayal of the King of Pop, especially given the involvement of his family. It remains to be seen whether it will be an honest or softened portrayal of the artist. To find out, audiences will have to head to theaters starting April 23.
Half Man – on HBO Max from April 23
Richard Gadd gained international recognition with the success of his Baby Reindeer, an autobiographical series that in 2024 captivated audiences and won an Emmy for Best Miniseries that same year. For his new show, Half Man, the creator and actor teams up with HBO Max, where the series will be released from April 23. The plot revolves around the characters of Niall, played by Jamie Bell, and Ruben (Gadd), whose deep bond is put to the test.
The Long Walk – in theaters from April 23
Cooper Hoffman and David Jonsson star in The Long Walk, an adaptation of The Long Walk by Stephen King. While the screenplay is written by JT Mollner, direction is handled by Francis Lawrence of the Hunger Games saga. He brings the story’s protagonists into an alternate 20th century where the United States is under a military dictatorship. Each year, the country selects fifty teenagers to take part in the titular long walk, where they must follow simple rules: never slow down and maintain a constant speed of at least three miles per hour. The winner is the last person left standing.
Stranger Things: Tales from 1985 – on Netflix from April 23
Stranger Things concluded with its season finale at the beginning of the year. However, fans of the series can find comfort in a new Netflix project that takes viewers back to Hawkins. An animated series titled Stranger Things – Tales from 1985, set in the winter of the mid-80s and placed between the events of the second and third seasons of the main show.
Resurrection – in theaters from April 23
A dream as big as cinema itself – and vice versa. Resurrection is one of the most inspired titles from the past Cannes Film Festival, marking the return of one of the most exciting voices in new Chinese cinema, director Bi Gan. Through an exploration of the five senses across as many stories, the film seeks to draw viewers inside the filmmaking machine created by the director, in a continuous homage to different storytelling genres that unfold one after another throughout the film.
Apex – on Netflix from April 24
Charlize Theron returns with a Netflix film after the two chapters of The Old Guard. In Apex, her character is a fan of adrenaline sports who, in order to overcome grief, decides to push herself to the limit and embark on a trekking journey through some of the most dangerous and remote territories of Australia. However, she won’t only have to face the wild nature, but also a serial killer on her trail, played by Taron Egerton.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 – in theaters from April 29
The most anticipated film of the month. The Devil Wears Prada returns with its sequel twenty years later, once again starring Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt. Times have changed since we first met Miranda Priestly and her magazine Runway, which now needs a refresh to keep up with today’s publishing and fashion industry. That’s why she reunites with her former assistant Andy, asking for her help.
The House of the Spirits – on Prime Video from April 29
Based on the famous book by Isabel Allende, the adaptation of the family saga The House of the Spirits arrives on Prime Video, set against the backdrop of the Chilean revolution. A story full of secrets, love, and political conflicts, now in series form.
Widow’s Bay – on AppleTV+ from April 29
After starring in the 2025 Netflix miniseries The Beast in Me, Matthew Rhys returns to television this year on AppleTV+ with the show Widow’s Bay. The actor plays the mayor of a picturesque New England town that hides secrets beneath its surface, in a story that blends horror and comedy.
Man on Fire: Thirst for Revenge – on Netflix from April 30
After his experience on Disney+ with Wonder Man, Yahya Abdul-Mateen returns to television, this time on Netflix, leaving behind Marvel superpowers to focus on the adaptation of one of A.J. Quinnell’s books. Man on Fire – Thirst for Revenge is a series about a former special forces mercenary determined to confront his inner demons and seek redemption. Before doing so, however, he must face one final challenge.
